3) Liar, Liar Pants on Fire

Updated: Sep 20, 2021

We have spoken about what Brain BS is and why we need to manage our minds. What I want to write about today is how frequently our brain lies to us. In fact, it might be beneficial to think of our brain as a tween or teen trying to get something they want at whatever cost. Meaning, we do not want to trust our brain the majority of the time. I am going to give you a few personal examples of how my brain lied to me and what could have been the result, if I had trusted what it was offering me.

Ever go through a phase in your life where you think you are fat and you cannot change it because you are older? You have read so much information that says your metabolism slows down as you get older and you get a new set point for your weight that is fixed and unmovable. You look in the mirror in disgust every day and feel shame because you do not look better or weigh less than you do? This can literally go on for years and then it becomes less conscious. It evolves into a general distaste for your own image, a sort of surrender to the aging process, and the realization you no longer feel like a vibrant woman. You don't even really notice when you lose all your personal power until it is gone.

This happened to me! I slowly gave up on the idea that I could weigh less again. That is, until I enrolled at the Life Coach School (LCS) and one of the monthly lessons was to lose 8lbs in a month. I decided to try because I thought it would be a good experience for me to learn the principles behind the coaching at the LCS. I followed all the recommendations and walked every day. I almost gave up on the plan a couple times because the weight loss was so slow that I doubted it could work. After a few months, I came to the conclusion that the only way I could reach my goal is if I gave up wine and I did not want to do that. Fortunately for me, I detected this brain BS early and chose another thought to take its place.

The thought I chose was, the honey in my coffee may be interfering with my intermittent fasting. Turns out it was! As soon as I eliminated that from my diet, I l lost 6lbs within two weeks. I began my weight loss at 157 and now weigh 141. My goal was 145, so it was a lie that I needed to quit drinking my wine on the weekends to achieve my goal. I feel at least ten years younger and beautiful from the inside out.

What if I believed the only way to lose the weight was to quit drinking wine, and I was not willing to give it up? I wouldn't weigh 141 today that's for sure. The difference between other times and this attempt, was that I managed my mind and detected brain BS when I saw it. I purposely chose another thought, that inspired me to take different actions, that led to the result I desired. If that is not personal empowerment, I don't know what is.

This is just one example of Brain BS. When we have a brain that lies to us on a daily basis many, many times, we have to step up and supervise our thoughts! Thoughts are optional and it is up us to manage our minds to get what we want. MKCoach can teach you how to supervise your brain to get the results you want in your life. Remember, the only thing standing between you and the life you want is your brain BS.
